Patrick Riviere: Writer, Playwright and Poet

Patrick Riviere has been writing for over 25 years – his first poems were published in a small journal, Crossroads, when he was just 16.  Since that time he has written several plays, adapted numerous children’s stories and written the book and lyrics to a children’s musical, Prince Watersplasher.  His first two plays have been produced and his play The House of Nunzio was named a 2003 semi-finalist in both the Mill Mountain Theatre New Play Competition and The Mildred and Albert Panowski Playwriting Award. Subsequently it was given a workshop production at Manhattan Theatre Source in New York City.  The House of Nunzio is currently being turned into a screenplay.  Patrick is working on several projects, including a novel, another collection of poetry and his play No One’s Positive, based on the controversial book, Positively False by Joan Shenton.  He has also written the lyrics to several songs, including the demo single, “Listen to the Young” for recording artist Priscila.  He was invited to write a feature article for the internet concerning education and training for aspiring performers, which received a great deal of attention when it was published in 1998.  He was also the chief theater arts critic for theglobe.com in 1998/99 and also reviewed for Downtown Kid.  In the fall of 2006 his first book, Flowers in Autumn: endings and beginnings, was published by Cliffside Small Press in association with Lulu Publishers.  The artwork in the book is by his late mother Gen.  In November of 2007, he published his 10-minute adaptation of the Dickens classic A Christmas Carol, titled Old Mr. Scrooge with original black and white illustrations by John Leech (originally published in 1843).
